Board Members
Foothill Community Health Center (FCHC) is seeking Volunteer Board of Directors. The FCHC is a non-profit organization partially funded by federal, state and local grants plus paying customers. Come and share a rewarding experience by helping the East Side San Jose community.
Share your experience working with a professional Board of Directors while helping a community and enhancing your resume. The Board of Directors consists of 51% clinic users and 49% community members that live in Santa Clara County. Clinic users are people that are clients of the clinic. The Board of Director’s interface with the clinic’s chief executive and medical director providing advice and support as the clinic grows and expends its services to the community while keeping an eye on the operation efficiencies and managing finances.
The board also interfaces with federal agents that manage the Bureau of Primary Health Care to raise federal grants for the clinic. The main charter of the clinic is to provide health care to underprivileged community members who cannot afford insurance and can’t pay for medical services plus regular clients that pay thru insurance, Medicare, Medical or cash.
Board meetings are held every last Thursday of the month, food and beverages are provided at the monthly meeting. Board members are not expected to donate money, but must contribute time and expertise to better manage a clinic. We are looking to fill two board seats in the next few months. We are looking for people of all ages, ethnicity and gender. We specifically need people with experience and/or training in law and the medical field but other backgrounds are also welcome. College students are welcome.
The current board consists of a board chair, vice-chair, treasurer, secretary and seven board members. The clinic carries liability insurance for the board members and the board is governed by the bylaws of the clinic.

To put the interest of the health center above any outside personal or other business interest
To maintain the confidentiality of board information
To attend board meetings regularly and participate actively
To serve on at least one committee
To review information and data provided to the board and make informed group decisions
To exercise reasonable business judgment in the conduct of board business
To participate actively in board issues by analyzing and commenting on reports and providing innovative resolutions to problems
To assure that the needs and interest of the community are represented in plans and decisions regarding services to be offered by the health center
To exercise care and concern for the center
To be loyal to the Center
To avoid a conflict of interest by self-serving interests
Requirements:
Understanding of the concept and operation of health centers and/or relevant other valuable experience.
